Fantasy sports, anyone?

Another great entry point to following the Tour is making a fantasy team. We recommend this route as a way of getting invested in a handful of guys as once you’ve drafted your team, you automatically have nine riders to care about when the race gets underway.

There are two main fantasy games that you’ll come across, Velogames and Tissot – we recommend Velogames to get started. The website is not the most intuitive, but we believe in you; once you figure out how to navigate, you will be asked to create and name your team and then all that’s left to do is adopt your chosen riders as your sons and follow their progress throughout the race.

If the thought of researching a fantasy team for a sport you aren’t invested in yet is off putting, fear not. You can be extremely chill about building your team and select riders according to your whims, using none of our suggested resources.
...But you can also go nuts trying to moneyball your way into a top team. If that appeals to you, here are some resources to get yourself going:

  • Here is a general guide on how to navigate the actual Velogames website. Yes, this video is 11 years old – but the website really hasn’t changed that much. That said, double check how the scoring works, as some of those finer details have been updated since this video came out.

  • If video is your thing, Ow Do Cycling makes pretty solid Velogames previews that include race profiles and advice on how to construct your team

  • If you prefer a written medium, The Pelotonian usually does grand tour Velogames previews that follow the same general format as Ow Do Cycling. These are easy to digest but are quite long, so bookmark the page to reference as you build your team.

Once you have created your team, we cordially invite you to join the KFZ Velogames League, to compete with your fellow newly minted Tour de France enthusiasts. Our league code is: 723580244.

Next: Go insane, king?
